FPP, ESD, OEM and CSP — what's the difference?

  • ESD (Electronic Software Delivery) – a digital product key with no box; delivered quickly and usually cheaper than FPP. License rights are identical to FPP (keep your tax invoice as proof of purchase).

  • FPP (Full Packaged Product) – retail box version; license rights and installation are the same as ESD.

  • OEM / OEI (DSP) – lower price, but can be installed on one machine only and cannot be transferred; for machines with no OS only.

  • CSP – purchased through Microsoft's Cloud Solution Provider program, suited to organizations (e.g. Office LTSC 2024, Microsoft 365 for business).

  • Activating Office ESD/FPP: 1 license key per device, and a Microsoft account is required (one account can activate up to 25 licenses).
